York is a great place to explore: choose our York B&B as base as we're so close to York city centre - better located than most York Guest Houses and with great bedrooms.
From the B&B you simply turn right onto Bootham and you'll see Bootham Bar [pictured above on the right], which is one of the historic gateways to York city centre. Walk through the bar and 30 seconds further on (only five minutes from the B&B) you'll come across the stunning York Minster (pictured above on the left). York Minster is northern Europe's largest Gothic Cathedral and really is breathtaking from both the outside and inside.
Alternatively, from our York guest house, head down Bootham and before you go through Bootham Bar, turn right. After about 30 seconds, and 5 minutes from Queen Anne's Guest House, you'll see York Visitor Information Centre across the road, where they'll be delighted to provide you with all sorts of information on York, as well as leaflets. They're happy to recommend our B&B, so we're happy to recommend them!
The York Visitor Information centre is close to York Theatre Royal (on left) and York Art Gallery (on right). Again, this is very close to the B&B and they often have interesting exhibitions and a small cafe.
Of course York is famous for its shopping, with a great mix of independent 'boutique' shops and the high street brands you'd expect. 'The Shambles' pictured above [middle photo] is arguably the most famous of all York's streets, with either side leaning so far that they almost touch at roof level! Although Victorian, our York Bed and Breakfast is no where near as old as these buildings!
Also worth trying is York Castle Museum, though leave plenty of time to visit. It's a little further away, around 15 minutes walk from the B&B, but well worth it. Leave yourself at least 4 hours to see all of the exhibits and reconstructions, as it really is one of Europe's finest interactive museums. Next to York Castle Museum is Clifford's Tower, one of York's most iconic historic structures. It's a 13th century stone structure with a rather chequered history! It's only about £3 [adult] to get in, so go and learn more about the heritage of York
There are also a selection of excellent pubs close to our York Bed and Breakfast. Many are situated close to York's historic city walls. Many have a good selection of local beers and real ales, and some even serve excellent food at reasonable prices. In summer, the beer gardens are outstanding, particularly the ones with views of the city walls and York Minster. Just ask us for suggestions of the best pubs close to Queen Anne's Guest House and the other main York guest houses in the area.
There's so much to do in York, all just a stone's throw from the b and b, such as York's National Railway Museum, York Boat [cruises through the centre of York on the river Ouse], Ghost walks of York [great evening entertainment], great bars, restaurants and everything else you'd hope for. We're a friendly York bed and breakfast, so don't be afraid to ask for suggestions!
